Presented at the Ohio Empowerment Coalition Conference in Columbus, Ohio on August 13, 2011,
This workshop discussed issues for trauma survivors, including the importance of gender-specificity
in understanding and responding to experiences of violent victimization. Data was
presented regarding the prevalence of trauma experiences; the impact of trauma; characteristic
coping styles; and models for trauma recovery and healing. Attention was be paid to different
types of trauma exposure and to the role of race and culture in trauma experiences. Trauma-informed
